
External Campus Ombuds Review
A 2019 review of the Chancellor’s Office and existing compliance units revealed an opportunity to streamline campus complaint resolution services. In spring 2022, an external review team provided a report which recommended the hiring of a Campus Ombuds. A summary of the report is available for public viewing.
Milestones
- The campus will begin a national search for a Campus Ombuds in summer 2022. We anticipate the position will be filled in late fall 2022.
- Updated August 2022: The campus has launched a national search for an Ombuds.
- Updated December 2022: The campus has successfully filled the position of Campus Ombuds.
Decarbonization and Electrification Task Force
The Decarbonization and Electrification Task Force was charged with identifying specific actions that UCSC can take to reduce our scope 1 and scope 2 carbon emissions by 2030, ideally to zero, using current or emerging technologies and leveraging strategies and projects that have already been identified and are underway.
Milestones
- August 2022: Request for qualifications for consultants released
- November 2022: AEI Consultants selected. Analysis and workshops begin
- January 2023: First Town Hall
- May 2023: Second Town Hall
- October 2023: Release of report
Campus Safety Services Realignment
In fall 2021, UCOP introduced the UC Community Safety Plan. In this plan, President Drake charged each of the 10 UC campuses with reimagining campus safety in the 21st century. In response to the UC Community Safety Plan and recommendations from the Campus Safety Community Advisory Board (CAB), UC Santa Cruz has implemented several changes to better support our diverse campus community.

- Progress on the UC Community Safety plan is available via the UCOP website.
- Several changes have been made in response to CAB recommendations and the UC Community Safety Plan. Updates on CAB recommendations and the UC Community Safety plan were shared with CAB in spring 2022.
- In response to a CAB recommendation, the Chancellor’s Office charged the Division of Arts with leading a Digital Art Project on Policing. The Arts Council for Equity and Inclusion (ACEI) Digital Art Project on Policing and Campus Climate Progress Report details the outcomes of this project.
