UCSC's Tenth Chancellor
George R. Blumenthal, the 10th Chancellor of UC Santa Cruz, is a distinguished professor of astronomy and astrophysics who has been an academic leader both at UC Santa Cruz and within the University of California system. He joined UCSC in 1972 and has served as chair of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, chair of the UCSC Academic Senate and as chair of the UC systemwide Academic Senate.
The Regents of the University of California made Chancellor Blumenthal's appointment permanent September 19, 2007. He had served as acting chancellor since July 2006.

Inauguration set for June 6
Chancellor Blumenthal will be inaugurated in an on-campus celebration on Friday, June 6, 2008. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the East Field and close with a reception for all attendees. Click here for more information.
Blumenthal calls for investment in education
Chancellor Blumenthal joined the presidents of Cabrillo College and California State University, Monterey Bay and the Superintendent of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education in calling for the governor and legislature to agree to continue state investment in education.
